Features of Hangzhou

An old saying goes, “There is Paradise above and Suzhou and Hangzhou below.”(上有天堂,下有苏杭) which expresses people’s appreciation of this city. Marco Polo spoke highly of the city as the most gorgeous city in the world during his travel through China.

With hills in the west and rivers in the east, Hangzhou has the characteristic of classic Jiangnan water town city. It is hot in summer and cold in winter, therefore the best season to travel there is spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the scenery at its best.

Having experienced much over its long history, Hangzhou has developed its own culture and has several key historic sites. West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Longjing Tea, silk, porcelain and traditional opera has become symbols of Hangzhou.

Nowadays Hangzhou has developed into a city where ancient culture meets modern life in the midst of stunning scenery. It fulfills everyone’s expectation as an old city full of charm.
