Shennong Stream in Yichang

Shennong Stream Shennong Stream scenic area is one of the 5 national AAAAA scenic spots in Hubei Province, located in Hubei Badong County which is in the north of Yangtze River, Shennong Stream is a constant flow stream that never run dry, originated from the first peak in central China-Shennongjia on south slope. The total length of Shennong stream is 60 kilometers, with 17 junctions along the River. Along the waterway you can see eight of hundred-meter high waterfall, hanging coffins on the cliff, and the local traditional style ferry boat, Tujia minority family on the river bank and stalagmite karsts formation cave are all illustrate the ancient history and natural beauty of this area.


Boat Drifting Along Shennong Stream

The boat drifting on Badong Shennong Stream shaped like a half cut pod, locally known as “peapods boat”, small and lightweight, and allow to takes ten people one time. It is made of oak wood; buoyant and easy draft on knee-high shallows, this make a special method for transfer and viewing scenery along the stream. Drifting on the peapod boat has to drive by men, and each boat requires six boatmen. The stream water rapidly and flowing fast, there is no flat riverbed to stand, the boat men have to wading to tow the boat when go through the shallow streams, one men walk in front take the lead to sing a song with a strong rhythm and the other followed, a special way to encourage each other.

Tips
1. Wear good water-pro shoes is necessary when drifting on the river.
2. Don’t stand up when the boat is moving and against with water current, in case drop into the river.
