Shanghai Wild Animal Park

The Shanghai Wild Animal Park is located off the Nanliu Main Road, in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai and it can be said to be somewhat of a recreation of what wild animals experience in the wild, with a touch of human aid or interference, as some people like to describe it.

The Animal Park covers an area of 153 hectares in total, serving as the residence to over 200 animal species, including the pride of the Chinese nation's giant pandas, but there is just about all kinds of animals throughout the park, with the more domestic ones adding to the variety of wild ones.

Highlights

The various animal shows serve as highlights of the Shanghai Wild Animal Park visit, set out as follows:

08:30 - 09:30 - Animals' Welcoming Performance, which takes place within the main gate, at the square

10:00 and 15:15 - The Sea Lion Show, which takes place at the Sea Lion Hall

11:00 - Lions & Tigers Show, which takes place at the Animal Training Ground

13:00 - The Large Square Show, which takes place at the Animal Performance Hall

14:15 - Horse & Dog Racing events, which take place the Dog Racing Circus

The live feeding practice which goes on is not for the faint-hearted, so the kids who are a bit more sensitive should probably sit this one out, since the carnivores, like the lions and tigers, are fed live animals, in a bid to sort of recreate the situation as it occurs in nature, however debatable that may be.

How to Get There

Most tourists to the area arrive via the subway, with Line 2 stopping off at the Zhangjiang High Technology Park Station, and then take a bus that goes right up to the Wild Animal Park.
