Shanghai Grand Theatre

The Shanghai Grand Theatre is a distinctive landmark located in the Chinese city of Shanghai, situated in the city centre of the People's Square, with the southern side of the landmark facing the People's Avenue.

Designed by a French architect who goes by the name of Jean-Marie Charpentier, the Shanghai Grand Theatre houses an automatic stage that is amongst the largest in the world and was officially opened in 1998 and it enjoys a full roster of lined up performances, with acts spanning the entire performing arts spectrum, which is why it is one of the more popular venues in the whole of Shanghai.

The Grand Theatre enjoys use of three theatres which range in size, all of which are equipped with the latest in top-end lighting and sound facilities, which accounts for a number of international arts, culture and educational productions performing at the Grand Theatre.

Highlights

The Grand Theatre attracts a number of internationally acclaimed acts, such as the performances of the Three Tenors, ballet productions from all over the world (some of the biggest as well), European opera productions, music concerts and other international events, such as the Italian and French Culture Year.

What even the locals look out for most though are the local acts, which are of international quality as well and these include the likes of the China Shanghai International Art Festival and the Shanghai International Film Festival.
