Nanping Village

Situated less than five kilometres to the south west of Yixian County Town, Nanping Village, which gets its name from the eastward lying Nanping Mountain, is an ancient, vast village with 300 buildings still standing from the notorious Qin and Ming dynasties, indicating an impressive history of preservation that stretches over a period of a thousand years.

Sight of this village and its surroundings resembles a time-travel excursion into the past, with the mere fact that modern dwellers go about their daily business making it all a bit surreal, but it is definitely worth checking out nonetheless, especially if the tourist is in their travels for a bit of historical culture to go with their sightseeing.

Nanping Village

The Nanping Village has a very mysterious atmosphere and it can probably be guaranteed that this mysterious atmosphere can't be found anywhere else in the world.

A number of small farmhouses make up the village, some of which offer very affordable lodging for tourists and there are some local snacks to be enjoyed, prepared in real Hui-style flavour.

Highlights

Undoubtedly, the highlight of any trip to the Nanping Village lies in the interaction with the thousands of Ye, Li and Cheng clan villagers, with the eight ancestral halls still standing to this day, which is essentially where the villagers get their moral and spiritual powers from.

Such mystique could never escape the clutches of the movie industry, with a number of motion pictures constantly making use of this sight for some major scenes in their productions, so one might be lucky to visit while one of these is being shot and end up landing an inadvertent part as a movie extra.

The supremely mysterious atmosphere which engulfs anyone visiting Nanping Village is something which simply cannot be put into words -- something which should be experienced live, reinforced by the collection of ancient alleyways that meander in and out of the walls at will, in a very mysterious pattern that might take a while to figure out.

Even the trees look like they come out of ancient times, completing the mysterious appearance of the buildings, such as the great constructions of the Xuzhi Hall and Shensi Hall, making up just two out of the eight ancient ancestral halls.
