A Walking Tour in Chengdu

Chengdu is cities which you may never want to leave. Those looking for a deeper understanding of this city and to explore the life of the local people should choose our thoughtfully arranged walking tour for an unforgettable experience.

Walking Tour Start at the Chengdu Shangri-La

The Chengdu Shangri-La is located on the bank of the beautiful Jin River overlooking the peaceful and sweeping scenery of the river and the Hejiang Pavilion and the picturesque bridges. Even if you're not staying at the Shangri-La, it is very central and a great place to start this river- and park-centric walk.

First Stop - Chengdu's Lan Kwai Fong, for Coffee

Lan Kwai Fong(LKF)fashion center of Chengdu with many elegant shops, restaurants and leisure activities. Starbucks in LKF-Chengdu is a good choice.

Cross the Street

Crossing the street, the sidewalk along the riverside is quite wide and locals like to gather here to fish or exercise. Usually there will be a large group of exercising locals practicing tai chi under the backdrop of river and bridge. You can learn tai chi with them or just watch to experience.

Cross the River

After hanging with the locals, make your way across the river via the Hejiangqiao Bridge. Of course there are other ways to across the river but it is the most beautiful via the bridge. There's a restaurant but you can cross on the side and walk on the outside of the restaurant.

Find Wang Jiang Lou Park

After crossing the bridge, turn left and walks with the river on your left. This section of the road may not quite as wide but it is easy to walk along. Keep going about ten minutes then you will come to the North Gate of Wang Jiang Lou Park which was built to commemorate the famous poet Xuetao during Dang dynasty.

If you want to visit the "Relics Area" where the most beautiful pavilions and buildings are, you need to pay a fee to enter. If not, head right from the gate along the side of the park to the West Gate. At the West Gate entry is free. This open zone is a park landscaped area that is famous for it’s varieties of Bamboo.

Visit the Relics Area of Wang Jiang Lou Park

If you're interested in Chinese architecture, don't miss this relics area of the park. After paying entry fee, go through the gate to see the spectacular pagoda and the other ancient buildings.

The Zhuo Jin Buildings and Chongli pavilions are the main structures in the park. The circular path, finely crafted pavilions, quiet forest and crystal pond make the park a charming and peaceful place.

After visiting the park, take a taxi and proceed to more Chengdu sightseeing or grab a bite at any of Chengdu’s delicious Sichuan eateries.

Most of Chengdu’s parks have tea houses. Wang Jiang Lou park is no exception. You will see people chatting, exercising, playing games and enjoying tea anytime of day during the whole year.
